Hard back, leather. Condition: VG-. First American edition, Jacob Johnson, Philadelphia, 1805. This is the first of many American editions of Johnson's famous dictionary. The title page notes that this volume also includes a Grammar of the English Language and The Preface to the Folio Edition. Bound in full marbled calf, the spine bears the title in gold lettering on a maroon background. Binding is robust. One board corner is slightly bumped. Leather spine shows some wear at top and at bottom of front hinge. Spine also sunned (see seller's photos for details) Many of the pages are clean, but many have light rust-colored staining. All pages are fully legible. (I have included a photo of the worse stained page for purchaser information). An attractive copy of much sought-after first American edition.
