Rare copy of the only book published in Woodman's lifetime. Recently acknowledged by among others the Guggenheim Museum in New York, she is now being viewed by some art historians as "incredibly original" and "one of the great photographers of the 20th century." Small 4to. First edition. Unbound folded sheets with pale pink wrappers and interior pages printed in black, white, and shades of grey. This book reproduces an original artists' book created by Woodman while studying in Rome. Using a selection of pages from an antique Italian geometry book, Woodman affixed 16 photographs on the deteriorating pages and added handwritten pencil notes, glue stains, and blobs of white correction fluid over ink and arcane mathematical formulas. Published just days before her untimely suicide at the age of 22 in 1981, of the 500 copies printed, 450 copies were sent to Woodman's family who distributed them as a tribute at her funeral. Widely considered a landmark, hugely influential work of experimental photography. Interest in Woodman's work has only increased over the years, and she has been the subject of several books and many exhibitions. First printing with The bottom line of text on p. 7 uncut, and the final "m" of the final text line of p. 9 present. The bottom staple at 64mm from the bottom page edge. In excellent condition.
