A Dragon Apparent: Travels In Indo-China, Norman Lewis, Jonathan Cape, 1951, First Edition, First Impression The author recounts his travels through Indo-China during the precarious last years of the French colonial regime where much of the charm and grandeur of the ancient native civilisations survived until the devastation of the Vietnam War. It is said that this book inspired Graham Greene to go to Vietnam and write The Quiet American. The book is illustrated throughout with photographs taken by Lewis. In very good condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There is shelf wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from marks and tears. The top edge fully retains its original red tint. There is a neat personal inscription and date to the front paper. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable jacket is in fair condition with loss to the edges of the front cover and the top and bottom edges of the spine.
