A very good, tight, intact full leather copy in a clear protective Mylar cover with strong hinges, wear to its edges, and foxing and soiling to some pages. This VERY RARE first edition, first printing, at first glance, appears to be boring and unremarkable, in reality it was used extensively! First published locally in Albany, New York in 1855 it was used primarily in the east United States. With the Trans-Mississippi migration after the Civil War this book proliferated in the American West. Newly elected or appointed sheriffs, constables, and coroners used it for reference because, frankly, they did not know what they were doing and used this volume extensively for instruction. The 1871-second edition was used frequently on the western frontier. Every Old West boomtown or new municipality, no doubt, had one of these books.
