Ink ownership inscription on the title page, some light wear here and there, but A nice copy. The first English translation of King's orig. treatise in Latin, DE ORIGINE MALI (Dublin, 1702). It is King's (the Archbishop of Dublin) major philosophical work and was very influential throughout the 18th century, greatly influencing contemporary theodicies, especially Pope's Essay on Man (1734). Translated by Edmund Law (1703-1787) with voluminous notes. The second part is lacking in many copies recorded on ESTC and is not bound here.
