Six scarce and visually striking issues of the quarterly magazine Emigre, dedicated to graphic design and technology. Six scarce issues of Emigre, in the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Emigre was an American quarterly magazine, published from 1984 to 2005. This magazine, known for creating some of the first digital layouts and typeface designs, was dedicated to visual communication, graphic design, typography, and design criticism. The designer and editor was Rudy VanderLans, with the assistance of Alice Polesky, and the typeface designs were created by Zuzana Licko. Emigre, Issue Nine: 4AD (1988). Cover design: Nigel Grierson. This issue focuses on Ivo Watts-Russell, 4AD Records and their in-house design team 23 Envelope. A poster, which comes with this issue, is loosely inserted.Emigre, Issue Ten: Cranbrook Academy of Art (1988). This issue, dedicated to graphic design, was made in collaboration with Cranbrook Academy of Art design students and several Dutch design groups including Studio Dumbar, Den Haag, and Hard Werken.Emigre, Issue Fifteen: Do You Read Me? (1990). This is a special issue focusing on typefaces, featuring interviews with Zuzana Licko, Jeffery Keedy, Karrie Jacobs and Barry Deck. Including examples of typefaces such as Triplex Italic and Citizen.Emigre, Issue Sixteen: Sound Design (1990). Cover design: Bruce Licher. Due to the monotony of hand-fed printing, four different colours were used for the covers. This is the red version. This issue concentrates on sound design and contains an interviews with James Towning, Stephen Sheehan, Bruce Licher and the band Every Good Boy.Emigre, Issue Seventeen: Wise Guys (1991). Cover design: Mark Lewisohn. The first part of this issue is dedicated to the designs of Piet Schreuders; the second (deliberately printed upside-down, to be read from the back of the issue) is dedicated to the designs of Edward Fella.Emigre, Issue Eighteen: Type-Site (1991). This issue, focusing on typefaces, features essays by Phil Bain, Elizabeth Dunn, Pierre di Sciullo, Madam X, Erik van Blokland and Just van Rossum. A poster, which comes with this issue, is stapled into the issue. In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Externally smart, with a little sunning to issue 16. A little creasing to the top corner of the front of the wraps to issues 17 and 18. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Small closed tear to the rear of the wraps of issue 16.
