Engr. front. & title, printed title, plates; front. & engr. title sl. dampstained. Orig. olive brown publisher's morocco, gilt; v. sl. rubbed. Ownership inscription on initial blank, 'Mary Jaggard, the gift of her Uncle Richard Jaggard, 1838'. a.e.g. A nice copy. The English Annual was published for five years, 1834-38. Contains the story The Pole, here attributed to 'the author of "Frankenstein"'. It appears the story was actually written by Mary Shelley's stepsister, and mother of Byron's daughter Allegra, Claire Clairmont, but erroneously attributed to its editor. It first appeared in 1832, also attributed to Shelley, in the August and September issue of The Court Magazine and Belle Assemblée.
