As stated to verso of title page to volume I 'Two Thousand Sets of this Books have been Printed at the Riverside Press Edinburgh. For Messrs Chas J Sawyer Ltd. and Messrs E P Dutton and Company. Illustrated throughout, with around one hundred illustrations comprising of facsimiles of numerous title pages. This work is a fascinating history of the English book. It discusses the Early English printers, the renaissance, Shakespeare, the private press, graphic arts and more. Written by Charles J Sawyer and F J Harvey Darton. Darton wrote several works on book history, his best known being 'The Story of English Children's books in History'. In full cloth bindings with original dustwrappers. Externally, generally smart with a small amount of bumping to the head and tail of spine and to the extremities. Dustwrappers are sound with slight rubbing to the extremities and to the spines. Tears to the joints to both volumes and chips to the extremities. Spines are badly sunned with a tear to the spine of volume II. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound.
