A very scarce presentation copy of this collection of thirty-one plates engraved by the Brothers Dalziel, printed on India proof paper, after images of the English countryside by Frederick Walker and G. J. Pinwell. The first edition of this very scarce volume of India Proofs engraved by the prolific Victorian era wood-engravers, The Brothers Dalziel.Limited to three hundred copies, this is one of a smaller run of 'a few Presentation copies which will not be numbered', signed by the 'editor of the Morning Post' facing the title page.Illustrated with sixteen plates engraved by the Dalziel brothers by illustrator and watercolourist George John Pinwell, and fifteen from painter Frederick Walker. Each plate as been printed on India paper, at hand-press, from the original wood-block. Collated, complete.Plates are interspersed with leaves of verse. While Algernon Borthwick, the owner of The Morning Post, was editor in this period, from 1880 onwards, Borthwick was known to have handed editorship of the newspaper to a series of men, including William Hardman, A.K. Moore, William Algernon Locker, James Nicol Dunn, and Fabian Ware. The publisher's do not state which of these is responsible for signing this presentation. In the publisher's original vellum binding, with gilt detailing. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with bumping, spotting and discolouration to boards, most concentrated to board perimeters.
