8vo (20.5 x 13 cms). [5], vi (only), [3] 6-209, [3]. Blue cloth; gilt ruled lines running horizontally along the top and bottom of both boards and spine; gilt lettering to the spine. Top edge rough trimmed; fore and bottom edges untrimmed. Title page in black and red letterpress (with a long s in the word English). The pagination at the beginning of the book would work only if there was a leaf missing between vi and 6 - but this does not appear to be the case. This volume covers the period 670 to 1832 and is not to be confused with other histories of English literature produced by Stopford Brooke. CONDITION. Good. The covers show some wear: corners slightly bumped; an abrasion in the middle of the spine; the spine a little crushed at crown and toe; the spine a little dulled; but generally clean and bright. Internally clean; end papers tanned; modern owner?s signature on the front free endpaper; contemporary signature on the half title. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 000399
