Estonian language. Octavo 13 x 18 cm. Weight 100 gr. Wrappers, 60 [4] pp. The Book is in Fine condition without any visible defects, losses, remarks and stains. Minor creases across cover corners, barely visible signature of previous owner on the cover, otherwise unread copy in perfect condition. Outstanding example of avant-garde cover design is produced by Jaan Vahtra, the brightest talent of Estonian modern art. Satirical collection Epigrams occupies a significant place in author's creation. In period 1927-1933 were published three books of epigrams in cooperation with loose literary group Aktsioon (Action) which author formed with like-minded intellectuals. In 1946 was published posthumous collection of epigrams written in 1934-1945. Epigrams II critics covers variety of themes - political, social, cultural, and expresses in sharp satirical experts about existing regime in the country, militarism, fascism, also were whipped artists, writers, actors, public figures. Some of well-known criticized persons: Mussolini, Konstantin Päts, Erni Hiir, Albert Kivikas, Henrik Visnapuu, Gustav Suits, Friedebert Tuglas, Ado Vabbe etc. Aleksander Antson (1899-1945) was an Estonian journalist and writer. Interested in political and social issues of the day, he was influenced by expressionism. In the 1920s gained recognition as a political writer. His plays describe the horrors of war and the revolutionary struggle, and were among the popular stage works of the time. In the 1930s he turned to lighter subjects and authored two novels, and penned numerous satirical epigrams and travel stories. During the first Soviet occupation of Estonia in 1940-41 he was employed by the communist party newspaper Rahva Hääl (The People's Voice) and expressed sympathy for Communism.
