Escrita en forma de episodios, la obra comienza con los inicios de la Guerra de Intervencion, la "Catastrofe de Chalchicomula" y termina con episodios de la guerrilla republicana en Michoacan en 1865 con "Aqui Traidores". Entre otros episodios de la obra se encuentran: "La Muerte de Zaragoza", "Oficiales Azotados en la Via Publica", "Batalla de Zontecomapan", "Escobedo en Monterrey".
