Professionally re-backed (from the period) in a light-blue leather, also with crisp gilt-titling and devices along the spine. Clean and very sharp at the text, with minimal foxing and with all plates (skilled full-page etchings) bright and unmarred. Armorial bookplate (James O. Byrne) to the front pastedown, 2 paper images (the author, Philip Gilbert Hamerton and the British artist Sir Francis Seymour Haden, 1818-1910) affixed to the following 2 blank versos.
