Decorative Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 258 pages. Ornately decorated blue cloth, both blind stamped and gilt decorated/lettered. Tightly bound, but rear hinge shown signs of strain. Blindstamp on title page states "Dunedin Mechanics Institute" but no indication of this being a library copy, so I'm unsure why it's been stamped. A superb copy. Frontispiece, plus 70 line drawings, photographs and distribution maps. Scharff's effort was to emulate Alfred Wallace's work on geographical distribution by isolating European animals with similar scrutiny regarding their ranges and relationships. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book by the author is an investigation into the geological history of European animals and how their geographical distribution tells the tale of their movement and evolution. The author argues that animals provide critical insight into the past and that the story of animal migrations is read through their geographical distribution. By carefully studying how animals disperse today, the author shows how we can understand the complex history of animal movement across continents and epochs. The author draws on examples including the hedgehog, the lynx, and migratory birds, and includes maps, illustrations, and photographs to illustrate his points. The book considers the geological history of mammals, birds, and reptiles, and concludes that the geographical distribution of present-day species is a key to unlocking the secrets of the geological past. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 9781527749252_0
