For Your Eyes Only, Ian Fleming, uncorrected proof, Jonathan Cape, 1960. One of just 125 copies printed, making this one of the rarer Bond proofs. Green wrappers with the Jonathan Cape motif in white; title in red to the title page, as in the first edition. No dust jacket, as issued. This copy has some (erasable) pencil editorial/proof-reading corrections principally identifying areas where the type on the page is too heavy or too fine, but also identifying dropped letters and other type layout errors. This was presumably done either by someone in-house at Cape or someone tasked to do the proofreading prior to publication of the first edition. Largely clean text block, bar some light staining to the fore-edge and shelf-wear to bottom edge. Wraps are lightly soiled with light damp-staining; very faint ring on the back cover. Crease to the top corner of the front wrap. Reading creases to the spine. 1.2cm closed edge tear to the top edge of the rear cover. Proof has a slight lean. Clean pages throughout. No dog-eared pages. Two small 3mm nicks/tears to the top edge of the last two pages, corresponding to the slight tear on the rear cover. A very good example of a hard-to-find proof.
