Third impression of the true first edition. The book was originally published in 1943. The illustrated front panel of dustwrapper shows a black and white sketch of Falstaff which is unattributed, but is very much in the style of Mervyn Peake who was illustrating books at that time. ***Very good in red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine. No inscriptions. Pages clean. Boards clean. Spine tight. ***In a very good buff-coloured, illustrated dustwrapper that has not been price-clipped, showing original publisher's price of 10s. 6d. net. Extremities of dustwrapper slightly rubbed and creased. Very small closed tear to bottom of rear panel of dustwrapper. Shallow loss to head of spine of dustwrapper. Dustwrapper clean.
