"Jeremiah Eck has articulated theories that are extremely thoughtful and inspired about the way we should design and look at our homes. Whether you are building, renovating, or love admiring a home that brings all the correct elements together, The Face of Home is an essential tool for understanding how lessons learned from traditional styles, attention to details, and fine craftsmanship make a home feel appropriate and pleasing." -- Norm Abram, Master Carpenter. "Jeremiah Eck teaches us why we love the houses we do. It is a lesson well learned." -- Rebecca Teagarden, The Seattle Times. "Elegant and down-to-earth, Jeremiah Eck's latest book, The Face of Home, is like the best of Eck's residential designs: essential for anyone who wants their home's exterior to be distinctive, yet never look-at-me garish." -- Marta Salij, Detroit Free Press. "At a time when cookie-cutter McMansions chew up open space from coast to coast, Jeremiah Eck reminds us that residential design at its best communicates a uniqe sense of place and tradition. The infectious joy that distinguishes every page of The Face of Home will inspire readers to demand a similar pride of place when building a home of their own." -- Norman L. Koonce, FAIA, former Executive VP/CEO, The American Institute of Architects. "The outside of a house is what we all see and remmeber. Yet few of us appreciate why the outside is just as important as the inside in creating a harmonious home. Americans lavish billions of dollars a year on interior design but seem content to settle for house exteriors that are, for the most part, uniformly monotonous or just plain ugly. In his new book architect Jeremiah Eck offers a fresh way of looking at the outside of a home. Focusing on five key hallmarks of good exterior design (for example, the house and site are one, the parts of the house are in harmony, and the details spring from the whole), Eck illustrates characteristics that all well-designed houses share, no matter the particular architectural style or materials used to build them. Eck provides an up-close look at 22 houses from all across America, convincingly demonstrating how to achieve a well-designed "face of home" that will give any house a unique character and personality." -- from the inner front jacket flap.…

Shopbeschreibung
Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
