Religious debates have always been political as well. Thomas Maguire [1792-1847] was a clergyman and prominent polemicist for Catholicism and Irish nationalism. In 1827 "he was the successful defendant in a civil action in the court of the exchequer brought.for [a] seduction." He had as his counsel. Daniel O'Connell , Richard Sheil, and Michael O'Loghlen. His winning verdict was seen as a political victory. [cf. Dictionary of Irish Biography] His riposte to the Anglican priest James Collins [1801-1868] is rare indeed. No copie held per COPAC nor LoC; not seen in commerce. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition, newly rebound in green cloth with a paper label title on the front cover. Clean text; 111 pages. Unfoxed; a small stain on page 103. The Title Page has a tear that has been professionally repaires. An important text in regard to early nineteenth century Irish nationalism.
