Two charming volumes on the wild flowers of England, with beautifully hand coloured plates. Two volumes in their first edition, with the first volume being published in 1848 and the second first published in 1850.Favourite Field Flowers; or Wild Flowers of England popularly describes the localities in which these flowers grow and their times of flowering. The aim of these volumes was to supply entertaining and instructive accounts of such plants indigenous to Britain.Plates are hand coloured and drawn and designed by James Andrews.All twelve colour plates from volume one are present, but plate 49 is loose. All twelve plates in volume two are present.Collated, complete. Both volumes are in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, the volumes are a little worn to the spine. Volume one's spine is faded and bumped to the head and tail. Volume two is also a little bumped to the head and tail of the spine. The boards are also a little faded, with volume one more so than volume two. Internally, front hinges are starting of both volumes but do remain firm. The rear hinge of volume one is also starting but remains firm. The second volume is firmly bound. The binding is loosening in place in volume one with the frontispiece loosening and plate iv loose.
