First UK Edition. This is the 2-volume set (including a separate volume of recipes by the Author) in publisher's slip-case. Volume 1 is bound in publisher's pastel-blue flecked buckram boards with red leather label to the spine lettered in gilt. 198 pages. Frontispiece and many other line illustrations by J E Laboureur , full page, in text and as chapter vignettes and end pieces. A fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper browned to the spine but complete. Very nice indeed. Volume 2 Cassell 1937) is the RECIPES volume which contains all the recipes which appear in part 2 of the companion Volume 1). vii, 198pp, Publisher's grey-green cloth with black spine lettering. The spine is a little tanned otherwise a fine copy. Vol 2 does not have a dustwrapper but not sure if it was published with one. The rare cardboard slip-case is rusted to the staples that held it together but otherwise a fine example. Xavier Marcel Boulestin (1878 - 20 September 1943) was a French chef, restaurateur, and the author of cookery books that popularised French cuisine in the English-speaking world. He owned a restaurant in London. He influenced Elizabeth David and was one of the first chefs to appear on the BBC. A rare set with both volumes in such nice, collectable condition in the original publisher's slipcase. Quite uncommon. Photographs/scans available upon request.
