8vo. xv,(1),326pp. followed by ads. Red cloth with gilt titles on the spine and upper board. Illustrated throughout and with folding plates depicting the machinery used in the finishing and calendering processes, and includes a section on starching. While not specific to the book arts, the content here comes very close to the manufacture of book cloth. Victorian bookcloth was starch filled then calendered to give it is decorative designs. The largest of the bookcloth suppliers, the Winterbotham Company, was located in Manchester, the location of this imprint. A fine copy with only light traces of wear a some light pencil underlining.
