Two mauve cloth hard covers with gilt titles on faded spines and circular gilt decoration on front boards; cover wear is mostly confined to bumped corners and worn spine ends with some sun-related fading of colour at lower borders. xv, 257 and vii, 252 untrimmed pages with loose frontispiece in volume 1 and 18 portraits and illustrations including folded genealogical table of the Reigning Princes of the House of Guelph. Inside each front cover is a book plate - Bath Public Reference Library purchased in 1928, but none of the usual lending library labels. Both volumes published in 1908 are in good condition.
