A sound copy covering the history of the early Franciscan missionaries in California and their founding of the 21 California missions. With many engraved illustrations and a map. Pages are clean and binding secure though both front and back hinges are cracked. With handsome allover botanical print to endpages. Two inscriptions are present: one on inside endpage dated 1903 and one on front pastedown. Outer endpages have darkened. Pebble textured covers are thick and sturdy with all around softening to edges and rubbing through to the boards on lower front corner tip and at one spot along spine edge.
