This is the original text as Shelley wrote it, some hundred-plus years after it was first published. Over the years the text had devolved to make the reading easier for the modern reader, however, Bobbs-Merrill and Professor James Rieger teamed-up to re-release the original text with footnotes, and background color on Mary Shelley and even her own notes on the original manuscript. The conceptual idea is that it would make a more intimate reading of the classic. As for this copy, the book is about fine; bright tight and clean. Purple cloth covered panels are bright and clean. pages and endpapers are clean. Book's only flaw is a tiny, faint mark on bottom page edges. As for the orignal DJ, it is bright and clean. $7.50 price is intact on flap. DJ shows minimal shallow chipping along edges with minor light soiling, and rubbing along front flap fold.
