'The Franks' is an interesting history of the Franks, a historic collection of Germanic people. They were first mentioned in third century Roman sources, though it is believed that they had been long known to the Romans under their own names, with the Frankish name only coming into being in the third century. There are very few remains left of the Frankish art and architecture, with the churches seemingly built with timber. Some jewellery, weapons, and clothing have been found in burial sites, as well as some illuminated manuscripts. Written by Walter Copland Perry. Perry was a barrister-at-law, being called to the bar in 1851, and a noted historical author. He also published 'The Women of Homer, Sancta Paula; a Romance of the Fourth Century, A.D', and 'Sicily in Fable, History, Art, and Song'. xii, 2 pedigrees, 508pp. Provenance dedication signature for Sir Frederick Milner to the end papers, bookplate to the front paste down.
