Beschreibung
I am pleased to offer a neat little book which records the address by Archibald MacLeish to the Annual Banquet of the American Booksellers Association held in New York on May 6th of 1942. This address was preceded by the reading of a letter from President Franklin D. Roosevelt making the point that books can be weapons for man s freedom. Archibald MacLeish draws the group s attention to it being almost the ten-year anniversary of the Nazi bonfire of May 10th, 1933, in which 25000 books were burned. Please find then: A Free Man s Books-An Address by Archibald MacLeish. This small hard cover book (5 ¾ x 9 ½ inches 19 pages) was published in a limited-edition of 1000 copies by Peter and Edna Beilenson of the Peter Pauper Press for presentation to members of the American Booksellers Association (no copies were for sale). The book is bound in gray paper covered boards with a red cloth spine with gilt titles on it. There is an American eagle embossed on the cover. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The boards are darkened along the lower portions as is the spine which also shows fading from the sun. There is light bumping to the corners and spine tips. Inside the book is unmarked except for a tiny number on the rear endpapers. The interior pages are clean and bright without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 71
