folio, 1 is rebound in brown cloth covered boards which form a box that is copied from original which was heavily worn and torn, original spine label presevred which is partially missing. That label appears to say "C Velours z 1887", but this may be incorrect as part is missing. The date is estimated from this label and the overall look of the book. Contents are very good to near fine with ca. 57 pages of heavy paper with 2,3, or 4 finely woven fabric samples per page for a total of ca. 183 samples. The orginal case was not useable, but the internal and external labels have been retained. There is a label laid inside that covered the original one which has the name Eugene Unsworth. The second label mentions Homo & Cie. The Second volume has " C Velours ete 1887" on the spine label, which is intact. It has a similar label inside as the other volume and contains ca. 230 textured, 3 dimensional and beaded fabric samples. The box appears to be original and in good condition but does have moderately heavy wear. Overall, a scarce collection of woven fabric samples from 19th century France. The books measure ca. 21" x 14" x 5.25" (53.3cm x 35.6cm x 13.3cm) and ca. 21"x 14" x 4.25" and they are quite heavy.
