As a cartoonist for "Stars and Stripes" Bill Mauldin (1921-2003) created his memorable characters Willie and Joe, affording a ground's eye view of World War Two that earned him his first Pulitzer Prize (as well as a Purple Heart). A second came during his postwar career as an editorial cartoonist. This is a good copy of a later printing of the First Edition (stated "Sixth Printing, August, 1945" and noting five printings prior to publication). this one being published by World Publishing Co by arrangement with Holt and Company. In fair to good condition, the cartoons and text are all very legiable, pages are lightly browning, and there is water damage (see book photos) at the bottom of covers front and back DJ shows lots of ware top and bottom from slding in and out of shelving, tears and discoloration on back from water damage (see photos).
