x, 405, [1] pp. 8vo. 7-3/4" x 5" This is the first of Mackenzie's four WWI "Greek memories," covering his service as a Royal Marine in the Royal Naval Division in Gallipoli. Mackenzie's health problems caused him to be assigned to counter-intelligence work in Athens in 1915, and by 1917 he was Director of the Aegean Intelligence Service. He was later awarded the OBE, Legion of Honor, White Eagle of Serbia, and the Redeemer of Greece for his wartime service. Uncommon in the complete jacket. Moderate wear; small stain to outer margin of beginning few leaves; front gutter apparently repaired somewhat amateurishly by prior owner. Text clean, binding nevertheless sound. DJ lightly edgeworn, with sunning and scuffing to spine; tape repair to interior of spine panel head and tail. VG/Abt VG Black cloth stamped in gilt to spine. Tan dust jacket printed in black.
