By the time he was twenty-six he had published four novels, a collection of short stories, a book of travel sketches and four full-length plays - an astonishing output which was brought to a tragic end by his death in 1954. One of his novels, A Burnt Child, has been published in English, and one of his plays has been staged and broadcast here. Some of his very best writing, however, is to be found in his short stories, and it is the aim of the present volume to present a selection of the most interesting of them. There are ten stories, to which has been added one autobiographical piece. ***Michael Meyer, who was a friend of Dagerman, has written a personal and critical introduction' [which compares his work to Strindberg and Kafka]. Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb. ***First impression of the first edition in English in its original dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 6159
