They crash, and the pilot, whose leg is injured, is left alone, with little food, in a desert place. His feelings, adventures and sufferings there are described with precision and detail, and with extraordinary insight into the mind of a man who is at once brave and commonplace. Once again Mr. Garnett displays the versatility of his talent and the charm of his narrative style.' (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). David Garnett's wife, whose woodcuts appear in some of his books including The Grasshoppers Come, was the illustrator Rachel (Ray) Marshall (1891¿1940), sister of the translator and diarist Frances Partridge. David Garnett was a member of the artistic and literary Bloomsbury group. ***First impression of the true first edition, hard to find complete in its original 1931 dustwrapper in such nice clean collectable condition. ***Of interest to collectors of David Garnett and early twentieth century literary first edition's and first editions of the Bloomsbury group, and also of the illustrations by Ray (Rachael) Garnett. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 3994
