He was briefly imprisoned during the French Revolution for his campaigns against the Jacobins, and reestablished the Bibliotheque nationale upon his release.With an illustrated bookplate to both volumes belonging to Lewis Andrew de la Chaumette.Errata page to rear of Vol II.Collated, complete. Bound with full-paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing and wear to the extremities and to the spines, particularly to the head of Vol I. Marks from fading to the boards of both volumes. Illustrated bookplate to front paste downs. Light spots and age-toning to paste downs and endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with light age-toning to margins of pages and the odd spot to the fore edge of text.
