Illustrated. 274 pages. First British edition. In the champion's own words, how he began, caddied, and practiced. How, as an amateur he won the US Open in 1913 in a playoff against two established champions of the game, the immortals Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. When he won the US Amateur in 1914, he personally relished that victory more sweetly. Ouimet also repeated the US Amateur win seventeen years later in 1931. Ouimet became the first American Captain of the R & A and a true ambassador for the sport. Being a rather unpopular victory in the UK, this British edition is rather uncommon. Gray cloth with blue lettering on the spine, not faded. Slight staining upper cover, light soiling to extremities, corners not bumped. Original endpapers, hinges tight, slight lifting on pastedown else clean.
