Ivan Bunin {1870-1953) was the first Russian writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize [1933]. He is often considered to be the heir of Tolstoy and Chekhov. Here is a collection of four stories, with translation from the Russian done by D.H. Lawrence, S.S. Koteliansky, and Leonard Woolf. Included are the title story and "Gentle Breathing," "Kasimir Stanislavovitch" and "Son." This is a Very Good copy of the Third Printing [stated 'Third Printing, January, 1934"]. Decorative paper-covered boards with a paper label on the spine. Clean text; 135 pages; lightly toned at the edges. Previous-owner inscription [September 1938] on the FFEP. Margins are rubbed; top a bit dusty. The dustjacket is present. It is unclipped, with a darkened spine, several small chips, and a split along the edge of the spine. In an archival plastic protector.
