Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. 1st edition. 1st editions, 1948 - 1957. 7 volume set, complete. 8vos. Each volume approximately 400 pages. Bound in dark navy blue cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Volumes 1-6 have Scribner's seal and "A" on the copyright page. The last volume, 7, completed by Ashworth and Carroll after Southall's death, do not have either seal or "A". Volume 1 has been extra-illustrated with newspaper and magazine articles from the '50s about Mount Vernon, Washington, and Freeman. These extra-illustrations have been pasted to the preliminary and end papers, obscuring only the dedication page, the rest being blank. Still, a very good set, clean with very light shelf wear.
