Twenty-four softly hand-colored collotype photographs accompanied by short English captions describe a day of visiting among a group of Japanese girls. The day's activities include dressing, hairdressing, greetings upon arrival, sharing tea, playing with dolls, musical instruments, dancing, a variety of games & sports, eating dinner, walking in the garden, and cooking. The delicately detailed images provide a historical view into the lives of privileged young Japanese women in the early 20th century. Undated, presumed first edition. Author/photographer Teijiro Takagi became the owner of the Tamamura Photographic Studio in 1904 and continued to use the Tamamura name until 1914, which dates this volume c. 1910. Takagi produced a variety of similar photobooks sharing Japanese customs with English language audiences. CONDITION DETAILS (see our photos of actual book for sale): presumed FIRST EDITION. Greenish-grey silk covers flexible boards, bound with a tasseled silk cord. Boards are fragile with edge & corner chipping and small areas of discoloration. Front binding is partially cracked but remains sturdy. No dj. Tidy inscription on front endpaper, otherwise no markings. 24 images all in very good condition; two of the protective tissue pages covering each photo page have been torn out.
