Ownership signature of Victor Denny on the FFEP; he has also written "1903" on the title page, even though that year is printed below, albeit in a small font. Slight edgewear to cover, and the first 20 - 30 pages are a bit crimped at the lower fore-edge corner, not affecting the text, nor visible if the book is standing. This copy belonged to Victor Denny, the son of first-generation pioneers David Denny and Louisa Boren, and includes his incidental marginalia and corrections. A vital primary-source account of life on Puget Sound, and among the rivers feeding Puget Sound, prior to the arrival of railroads. Ostensibly a history of the Methodist Church in the region, Atwood provides insight into all manner of society in the region, from Steilacoom to Whatcom (and including a few pages on Point Barrow, Alaska), including Native American culture.
