First Edition (first printing). 8vo. viii, 448pp. Red cloth lettered in gold at the spine. Binding very slightly cocked, and with a trace of spotting to the edges and very light partial toning to the free endpapers. A nice crisp copy in pictorial dust wrapper, with a hint of dust soiling to the rear panel and a single tiny closed tear. A ridge to the backstrip and an area of surface abrasion to the front free endpaper where two stickers have been removed. A nice bright copy housed in a fractionally chafed version of the new dust wrapper which foregoes the striking Broom Lynne pictorial design. This re-issue is printed from the sheets of the 1966 third impression, re-cased in linson. It retains the 1966 publication date but cannot have been issued prior to the early 1970s when the ISBN system was introduced.
