Illustrated. 84 pages. Introduction by Bernard Darwin. Reprint of the 1857 classic, only the third book printed on the game, the first editions command five figures. As Joseph Murdoch wrote: "A book of considerable importance in that it was the first book of prose written on golf and generally recognized as the first book of golf instruction." Limited edition of 750 hand number copies. The first 50 copies were bound in decorative cloth and issued with a slipcase. This is one of those especially bound books, copy #41. Original publisher's green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, upper board with golf clubs and golf balls, decoration in gilt, top edge gilt, others uncut. Beautiful, unmarked example, rear endpapers remain unsplit, appears unopened; tight and bright. Slight tanning to spine of unclipped dust jacket else fine in protective mylar cover; original slipcase in near fine condition. Undoubtedly, the nicest copy available.
