The first edition.An intriguing pictorial study on the styles of Gothic furniture of the fifteenth century, sketched by the famed Gothic Revival style architect Augustus Welby Pugin.Illustrated with an engraved title, and twenty four plates.Collated, complete.Eleven pages of adverts to the rear.Bookplate of architect Charles Edge to the front paste down. Based in Birmingham, Edge was responsible for many of the buildings of the city, including the Town Hall, Key Hill Cemetery, Market Hall, and more. In the original publisher's cloth binding, with a pictorial onlay to the front board. Externally, generally smart. Pictorial onlay is rubbed and a little age-toned. A small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spine. Light bumping to the extremities. Small repair to the tail of the pictorial onlay, with numerical ink to the head. Spine label is aged toned and chipped with torn tape. Light marks to the boards and spine, with a little rubbing to the joints and extremities. Rear joint is cracked, smaller cracks to the front joint. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound.
