Beschreibung
First impression of the true first edition. ***Near fine in mid-blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright having been protected by the dustwrapper. Boards clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine just very slightly creased. Small scuff at the bottom of the front board near the spine. Top edge of page block stained blue by the publisher to match the boards - now faded. Edges of page block lightly foxed. No bumps to the boards. Corners sharp. Binding straight with no reading lean. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. No offsetting or foxing. No serious creases or tears - just light creasing to the bottom corners of the last few pages. ***In a near fine colour printed dustwrapper, which has not been corner price-clipped, and retains the original publisher's printed price of 7/6 net. The dustwrapper is complete without any loss - just slightly rubbed and creased at the extremities, with very small nicks at the head and tail of the spine. The dustwrapper is still bright and clean, with just slight browning to the spine. (Please see scans) ***192mm x 130mm. 322 pages. ***'Mr. Masefield has gone far afield for the subjects of most of his books. But now he gives us a novel of the English countryside. Instead of the alien adventures of "Sard Harker" and of "Odtaa" he gives us English romance.: the plot is simply the competition of six or seven young bachelors for the hand of a beautiful girl. And which will the beauty pick?' ***"It seems to me probable that in this Mr. Masefield has written not only the best novel but also the best book of his whole career." - New Statesman(Quote and review quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***'John Edward Masefield OM June 1878 - 12 May 1967) was an English poet and writer, and Poet Laureate from 1930 until 1967. Among his best known works are the children's novels "The Midnight Folk" and "The Box of Delights", and the poems "The Everlasting Mercy" and "Sea-Fever"'. (Wiki) ***First impression of the true first edition, complete in the original pre-war dustwrapper, in nice collectable condition. The novel is uncommon to find now in a near fine dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 8582
