Post World War II travel guide and social introduction to famous Japanese landscape paintings of travel by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 - 1858). NOTE: Throughout this 1946 publication, artist Hiroshige, is spelt as "Hirosige". Hiroshige a master ukiyo-e artist, produced some 8,000 works. His early works were of the traditional themes of women & actors, but, in 1831 he dramtically turned his focus to small scale (as opposed to older, grandscale Chinese traditions) landscapes, featuring common travelers, throughout the seasons, in rain & snow, as they passed & experienced famous sites. 74 pgs w/color & b/w reproductions, in 3 chapters: I, Life of Hirosige (w/portrait of Hiroshige by Toyokuni the 3rd); II, Hisosige & Landscapes; and III, Notes on Hirosige's Masterpieces.
