CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 5th New Hampshire Infantry Regiment suffered the most battle deaths of any Union regiment in the Civil War, with 295 men killed in action. The regiment fought in the Peninsula Campaign, the Maryland Campaign, and Appomattox Campaign. At Gettysburg they lost 86 officers and men after 3 hours of fighting at the Wheatfield. The 5th NH is recognized as one of the FOX 300 Fighting Regiments.
