[First Edition] Edition De Luxe. [40]pp. Quarto [31 cm] Light brown with the title on the front board. About very good. Corners bumped and rubbed with minor rubbing to extremities. A couple of leaves have chipped corners. Work contains 35 black and white views with a brief opening section by the photographers titled 'How We Made the Photographs.' Opens with an introduction by Theodore Roosevelt. Augusta and A.G. Wallihan arrived in Northwest Colorado in the mid-1880s and planted roots near the settlement of Lay. In 1889 Augusta suggested that A.G. should try to photograph the abundant wildlife in the area. They were able to trade some travelers for a camera and A.G. began learning how to shoot and produce photographs. The images were a hit with the public and they went on to exhibt their images across America and Western Europe. This work is considered to be the first book of wildlife photography.
