The first edition of this collection of equine poems, illustrated with bright tipped in colour plates from Lionel Edwards. The first edition of this collection of forty horse themed poems from William Henry Ogilvie, a Scottish-Australian narrative poet, horseman, cattle rancher and drover, one of a trio of such men known as the Bush Poets. This work is illustrated with eight tipped in brightly coloured plates from the British artist Lionel Edwards, who illustrated at least three other collections of poems from Ogilvie. Edwards was best known for his hunting scenes, but also painted pictures of horse racing, shooting and fishing. Collated, complete.To the front pastedown is the bookplate of Sir Philip Brocklehurst, known for being a member of the 1907-1909 Nimrod Expedition in Antarctica, led by Ernest Shackleton. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Slight discolouration, most concentrated to back strip. Shelf wear to spine head and tail. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
