Catherine Mary Charlton Bearne explores the lives of four extraordinary women who were alive during the French Revolution, the First French Empire and the Restoration: the talented painter Madame Vigée Le Brun (1755-1842), the noblewoman La Marquise de Montagu (1766-1839), the famous socialite Madame Tallien (1773-1835); and the writer Madame de Genlis (1746-1830). In a half calf binding. Externally very smart, with a little rubbing to the extremities and the spine, and a loss to the head of the spine. Colour is good and gilt is bright.
