First edition of French orientalist Clà ment Huart's two volume set "Histoire des Arabes" (History of the Arabs) from their origins in the 8th century, to the late 19th century. Some of the topics developped in this work are the following: The kings of Ghassân and Hira; Mecca before Mahomet; Mahomet; Organization of the Muslim society; the Abbassid caliphate; Political and economic institutions; Spain and the maghreb; the end of the Arab domination in Spain; Yemen; the Wahhabis; Sciences and Arabs, etc. At the end of the second volume, Huart devotes two large chapters on the history of Arabic literature, and Arabic sciences. This work is complete with its large folding map at rear of second volume. The map shows the Arab conquest in the middle of the 8th century. Ex-library copy with stickers at tail of spines. Ex-library bookplate on inside of each front cover, and printed notice on inside of each back cover. Library stamps to top and bottom paper edges, and at verso of each title page.
