1676 1ed Eighty Years War Flanders Spain Dutch Independence Strada Netherlands Famiano Strada, a Jesuit professor of rhetoric, is chiefly remembered for his famous account of the Dutch War. And while De Bello Belgico was Strada s most famous work, he did publish an important book on the history of the Eighty Years War in which he discussed Spanish rule over the Netherlands. Curiously, Strada took a pro-Spain approach, angering Dutch readers, but his intention was to call the supporters of William of Orange to action. This impressive 1676 six-volume printing of Strada s History of the Flanders War (i.e. Eighty Years War) was published in Lyon by Carteron, which according to the OCLC, is a very rare and obscure printing.
