8vo. Pp. 343. Frontis. reproduction of color Lee painting of the Spirit of St. Louis in flight. Pen and ink illustrations printed in blue-green and black. Foreword by Commander Richard E. Byrd. Dark red cloth, titles and illustration stamped in gilt, blue and silver on the cover, titles in gilt on the spine, dark red topstain, illustrated endpapers. Slight wear to cover; old bookseller tag on rear pastedown (Hutzler Bookshop, Baltimore). Binding tight, leaves crisp and bright. Volume conforms with the author's Historic Ships and Historic Railroads. Very light wear to cover. Philadelphian Lee illustrated many children's books, magazines (American Boy, Jack and Jill), pulps (Blue Book), dust jackets and comic strips in his long career, always with an eye for historic accuracy. A good copy but with some light staining, mainly to edges of some pages near top of book. Bookplate on front flyleaf as well as abrasion from an obliterated name or other writing. In a considerably worn dust jacket with paper reinforcing tape on inside of jacket. Some paper loss but no major chips. Several tears and creases.
