A rare first edition of this classic work on lepidoptery. Plainly bound in brown buckram with gilt lettering to spine. Edges are bumped and the boards are lightly stained. Pages are age tanned with occasional slight foxing. 71 beautiful coloured engravings, which are in remarkably good condition. Water damage to rear, staining one double page engraving, on collecting equipment for butterfly hunting, fortunately the only one not hand coloured. 4to. This is a uniform binding with Morris's other great works: A Natural History of the Nests and Eggs of British Birds (3 volume set)and A History of British Birds (6 volumes) which we have in stock.
